The PICTOPIA curatorial duo, Lars Dericke and Peter Thaler, take time out from their busy program to talk with Diana McCarty about exhibition, performance program and their approach to the genre of a global visual communication language and character design. The interview spans a ten year history of work with Street Art, tagging, and sophisticated pictograms and character design that went into PICTOPIA, as well as touching on the fuzzy border between graphic design and art, human and non-human and a chance to avenge the sterile world of the digital. They talk about the importance of bringing back the body with the performances by GOB SQAD, Planning to Rock and Jared Gradinger and Angela Schubot. Don't worry if you don't follow the narrative: there isn't one! This is a new (or not) way to communicate outside of standard design. It gets messy and that's the point. The performances are happening over the weekend of the 24th and 25th of June. The exhibition is open until May 3rd at the House of World Cultures - so jump in.
